The Real Outlander: 8 Day Tour

Accommodation on our 8 day tours is provided in a range of historic, luxury country hotels where you can enjoy gourmet meals and exquisite grounds, and in an historic lodge on one of the oldest estates in Scotland where you can relax by the fire and immerse yourself in the history and culture with our expert guides and a local dram. Double, twin or single rooms are all available, with all meals are provided, and the opportunity to sample traditional Scottish culinary delights, as well as more modern takes on Scottish fare.

Starting and finishing in Edinburgh, the ‘Athens of the North’, this eight day all inclusive* tour costs £2,125 GBP per person (£395 sgl supp) based on two people sharing. Payments can be made via PayPal or bank transfer and full details will be provided on acceptance of your booking. Outline Itinerary


Day 1 – Pick up in Edinburgh before visiting the Jacobites exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. After lunch, a trip to Bonnie Prince Charlie’s encampment leading into a walking tour of the Battle for Prestonpans.

Day 2 – Understanding the religious backdrop of the Uprisings is essential and precedes a visit to St Andrews Cathedral, the home of the Medieval Scottish Church until the Reformation. After lunch, we continue on to the ancestral crowning place for the King of Scots with a visit to Scone Palace. 

Day 3 – A visit to the Battle of Killiekrankie, site of the first Uprising, before visiting the pivotal Blair Castle. After lunch our expert guides lead you through the archaeological landscape of prehistoric origins, military roads and cleared settlements in Glen Garry.

Day 4 – We head north to Ruthven Barracks, a strategic stronghold - crucial to controlling the Highlands, before a visit to the Highland Folk Museum, where you will experience first hand what it was like to live in the 1700’s. We end the day with a wee dram at the Dalwhinnie Distillery.

Day 5 – Some retail therapy at the House of Bruar, specialising in luxury Scottish produce and products is followed by  a walk over the Drumochter Pass and visit to one of Scotland’s earliest, post-rebellion, planned towns, Grantown-on-Spey. The day will wind down with a visit to one of Scotland’s most evocative prehistoric sites at Clava Cairns.

Day 6 – The day begins at the end of it all - Culloden, with a trip to the battlefield and visitor centre, before heading to Urquhart Castle and a scenic trip on Loch Ness.

Day 7 – A trip to Fort William followed by a walk through the breathtaking Glencoe, site of one of the greatest betrayals in Scottish history.

Day 8 – On our return to Edinburgh we will visit Edinburgh Castle followed by the choice of: a tour of the historic Old Town, or sampling the shops of the Royal Mile.
